We humans are so reluctant to the preservation of natural resources and sustainable development that we forget we are largely dependent on our mother nature and become ignorant towards taking care of it and forget the beauty of the earth completely.
Coronna Lockdown imposed throughout the world and made us think about how nature is important for our day to day life. This lockdown made us believe that earth is healing itself now and we can save it.
We have seen improvement in the environment. The polluted air in which it was difficult to breathe has improved, lesser water pollution, less wastage of plastic bags. rivers and lakes are clean. This shows that the environment is improving.
This is our responsibility now to take care of it and for that, we have to follow simple basic rules even after the lockdown is over. That would be beneficial for us. So, let us go through some points which we need to take care for the future to maintain our ecosystem.
7 Ways How We can be Environmentally Friendly
- Walk More Drive Less
- Avoid Wastage of Food
- Plant More Trees
- Save Water Save Life
- Save Electricity
- Use Eco-Friendly Products
- Avoid Poly Bags
1. Walk More Drive Less
Nowadays four-wheelers have become a necessity for everyone, going anywhere whether it’s near or far we use our car. Day to day climate conditions are the result of our excess use of four-wheelers. Average petrol cars produce more than 180 kg of Co2 per kilometre.
In many countries, even short journeys which could be done on foot are usually made with cars, which produce more Co2 and lead to more damage to the environment. As now, during this lockdown period, the environment is healing up and we can also contribute to that even after the lockdown is over, lower down the use of cars and make a habit of walking as much as we can do. walking plays a crucial role in improving our lifestyle as it does not cause any damage to the environment like – clean air, reduction in noise pollution, reduction in road accidents. walking rarely causes injuries and also gives street vitality and security
2. Avoid Wastage of Food
Food is an essential part of living. No work can be done with full potential on an empty stomach. food is the most obvious reason that keeps us alive, food is the third most basic thing for life after air and water. But, nowadays wastage of food has increased so much, we are not just wasting food we are wasting all the resources that went into growing it, water for irrigation, land for planting, fuel for powering harvest and transport vehicles, from falling of fruits from a truck to the filling of rubbish bins with uneaten meals, all those resources are essentially wasted right along with the food. We can reduce food wastage by planning, prepping and storing for example – by making a list with weekly meals in mind can save our money, time and healthier food, if we buy no more than we expect to use we will more likely to keep it fresh and use it all. it is easy to overbuy or forget about fruits and vegetable freshness. Store fruits and vegetables for maximum freshness, they will taste better and last longer. shop in your refrigerator first! Cook or eat what you already have at home before buying more. do not leave uneaten meals in your plates or rubbish bins.
3. Plant More Trees
Trees are of invaluable importance to our environment and human well being. They give us clean water, fresh air to breathe, shade and food to animals. Trees are so important for the global environment and the health of species that live there and they need our unconditional care and protection. Cutting trees can result in the loss of habitat for animal species, which can harm ecosystems. less trees leads to more air pollution, insufficient rainfall, depletion in water resources, damage to the ozone layer, unavailability of herbal medicines and many more. We need to plant more trees not only to provide shades and beauty to the landscape but also for other benefits. trees provide clean air to breath, provide Inhabitat to the species on earth, purify the water for drinking. Planting more trees reduces the risk of natural disasters such as floods and landslides. Plants reduce the harmful effects of greenhouse gasses and increase the amount of oxygen in the air. Let us take action today and plant more trees.
4. Save Water Save Life
Water is another essential part of life like air and food. if we cannot live without air and food likewise we cannot survive without water. Water plays an equally important role in human beings and the environment. All the industrial, environmental and metabolic processes are water-dependent. Wastage of water may pose a serious threat to the environment as well as lives. Discharge of domestic and industrial wastes, leakage from tanks, marine dumping, Radioactive waste and atmospheric deposition are major causes of water and river pollution. Some individual initiatives can be taken to reduce the wastage of water such as fixing if saw any leakage in our home or around us we can take shower instead of filling a bucket, while brushing we can turn off the tap not to throw the rejected water it can be reused in different ways. if we all take some of these initiatives we can prevent wastage of water to a maximum per cent.
5. Save Electricity
Electricity has many uses in day to day life. Many things which bring comfort to people are related to electricity like, A/C, machines, stoves and many more. Electricity reduces the workforce of employees to reduce wastage of time. wastage of electricity has also increased and it leads to loss of environment also we can save our environment by saving electricity in different ways like, we can use energy-efficient light bulbs they offer same light but less energy, turning off switches and pulling off plugs when not needed, only run washing machine or dryer on full load, adjusting the temperature of fridge and freezers, purchase only energy-efficient appliances, staying up to date with our maintenance.
6. Use Eco-Friendly Products
There are many products which we use in our day to day life, some products are harmful to the environment and some are beneficial for the environment. We live in a society where both of these products are used. We can protect our environment by using eco-friendly products, these products do not harm the environment even in production. Some tips for using eco-friendly products are using recycle bags, reusable coffee cups, clothes made of recycled products. eco-friendly products save energy, they do not require much maintenance, they help in saving the environment as these are free from harmful chemicals so it does not harm our health even, these are made of recycled products which lead to saving of material. It is our responsibility to protect the environment by using reusable and recycled products
7. Avoid Poly Bags
Plastic bags on land are one of the most common types of litter. Build up huge quantities of plastic bags are well known to block drainage systems especially in developing countries. plastic bags are problematic to recycle. plastic bags not only harm the environment but animals also they eat the plastic bags and suffer from serious health problems. Sewage problems occur due to blockage done by plastic bags. We can overcome these by giving up plastic bags and taking your bag to the store. Avoid using plastic straws. Use a paper straw instead. give up plastic bottles and use refillable bottles, using bar soap instead of liquid, recycling whatever we can following these rules help in healing up the environment.
To conclude, we can say that in this period of lockdown earth is healing itself. It is our responsibility to take care of it even after the lockdown ends. The more we take care of our environment, the more we reduce the use of harmful products, save water and electricity, make less pollution, the more we will breathe well and live a healthy life.
